A Cut Back

So many people have trouble growing petunias..I've also heard alot of people say they are to high maintenance to tackle. But really most annual bedding plants I've come acrossed really do need similar care. They all need dead heading..meaning cut off the spent flowers, they also need adequate water, sun, and or shade. Also most respond well to a little cut back, or hair cut as I like to call it..which inadvertently rejuvenates your plant. Here's the thing annual plants life cycle is to grow...produce flowers, and then set seed. If you keep your plants dead headed and cut back they will not set seeds and think they have to keep producing foliage and flowers...with the ultimate goal of producing seeds...Coming to seed is the key. If you let your plant produce seeds it thinks it's done, and subsequently stops producing flowers and dies back.. So if you want your flowers to produce for a longer period of time..they do require a little work. Petunias, Geraniums, Coleus, and many others I can think of...lol. So dreaded petunias your not alone. As my mother use to say I'm gonna plop you in the ground and you have to thrive on neglect..well with that theory in mind you will only have pretty flowers for a short period of time...nature sometimes needs a little boost..Give it a try..you will see a huge difference in your flowers!
